A
colorful past brings a rich diversity to the Cenay label.
The Cenay family were serious
about the "Good Life". In the 1800s, just as
California was bitten with gold fever, the family set up shop
on the lively waterfront area of Sacramento. Dealers of fine
cloth, premium cigars and purveyors of quality food and wine
was the Cenay family trade. Coffee, tea and chocolate was selling
for twelve and a half cents a pound. Elk or antelope steak sold
for twenty-five cents each and the price of a bottle of fine
Bordeaux or French champagne, well.., a bit of gold dust from
the miners went along way.
The Cenays continued the accoutrements
of the good life into the 1920s. With the correct password
you would be allowed to pass through to the speakeasy out the
back of the store. A full glass and a smile was the trademark
for a patron of the store.
That century old tradition is
renewed, providing quality and enhancing your life with the exceptional
wines provided under the Cenay family label. Today the family
spirit lives on through Linda Rowland, a descendant of the Cenay
family. |
