1998 Pinot Noir Rodger's Vineyard - Napa Valley
90 Points - "OUTSTANDING"
The 1998 Pinot Noir, Roger's Vineyard, Napa Valley
(Unfiltered) has a perfumed bouquet of cherry, ripe strawberry,
rhubarb, cedar, tea and sandalwood. The flavors of cherries, berries,
root beer, toast and spice are clean, fresh, and bright followed
by a ruity, spicy, cedary finish.

WINE FINDS

Without a doubt this is the finest
pinot noir that I've tasted in this price range in many a vintage.
And it is from what would seem an unlikely source, for the Rodgers
Vineyard is in the Oak Knoll District of southern Napa, where
growing conditions are usually considered warmer than in the more
renowned (for pinot) Carneros area of Napa.
Very Burgundian in aroma and texture,
this is a classic example of what pinot noir should taste like
if California vintners could nail it every vintage, which they
rarely do. The cherry and raspberry flavors and wild berry and
spice aromas on the nose are pure, elegant and inviting. A powerful
combination for such an elegant wine.
