2001
PINOT NOIR
HOUSTON CHRONICLE JANUARY 21st,
2003
WE RECOMMEND ROWLAND CELLARS
Those wines include the 2001 Ramspeck "North Coast"
Pinot Noir --* * * * --a slightly gamy pinot with just a faint
nuance of herbs. The flavor profile is more cranberry than strawberry,
with some vanilla from the oak barrels. It's not a New World fruit
bomb, but it's not a red burgundy, either, although there is a
touch of Burgundian earthiness. This particular vintage is 55
percent Napa Valley and 45 percent Mendocino. "It's a good
mix," Rowland said. "If the Napa Valley grapes are too
warm one year, I can add more (cooler) grapes from Mendocino.
" And vice versa." About $20.99.
