PINOT NOIR
Praise the "Gods
of Noir"
This harvest has taught me to
think French! Actually my accent leans more towards "G'dy
Mate". The French consider the important contributing factors
of a great red burgundy to be the vineyard aspect, low yields,
hospitable growing season and superior wine making.
Well I've never been one to doubt
the wisdom of the ages. For three years I've worked hard on vineyard
selection and blend ( I hear those French guys talk about 300
years! But we're talking the real world here), the '95 crop was
down by forty percent, the growing season was hospitably long,
and superior winemaking well... let's just say, like the French,
I'm still experimenting trying to crack that nut.
Each and every year I keep learning
more but I'm ecstatic about the finesse and quality of the '95
vintage. The small crop made me worried about not having enough
wine to sell ... but when I tasted the incredible fruit &
luscious berry fatness - I could only say "Praise the Gods
of Noir." |
