1999 PINOT NOIR, NORTH COAST

El Niño?… La Niña? … Who knows!

This is certainly one of our most fruity and solid structured pinots to date. When everything comes together, words like big, generous and mouth-filling come to mind. Are we learning more about winemaking or is our Napa Valley fruit just exceptional in '99?... To be fair, some of each.

The French consider the important contributing factors of a great red burgundy to be the vineyard aspect, low yields, hospitable growing season and superior wine making. Well I've never been one to doubt the wisdom of the ages. The '99 crop was down by forty percent, the growing season was hospitably long, and superior winemaking … nothing but the best.

Each and every year I keep learning more but I'm ecstatic about the finesse and quality of the '99 vintage.

Hope you enjoy this wine as much as we do...live long and prosper.
