2000 RODGERS VINEYARD PINOT NOIR High Voltage Vintage! News flash. (deeep..deeep..dada..deeep..deeep) Governor Grey Davis has major concerns over California power supply! Rolling blackouts occur...in Napa Valley! Just when we have mastered modern technology we are thrown back to making wine in the dark ages.      If your computer shuts down in a blackout, you exercise your skills with calculator and pen. In a winery you pull out the buckets, siphon hoses and use the power of gravity and man. This was a blessing in disguise, the gentler movement upon the wine preserved it’s integrity. If I had requested the wine to be moved by gravity (labor intensive!) and not by pump the winery would have kicked me out. So we lucked out!      We used our predicament to improve wine quality. A minimalist approach was adopted with a light fining, gravity movements and bottling unfiltered. And what of harvest, I hear you cry? Well, all our usual care went in to yield and canopy management, and the weather was uneventful -which for Pinot suits me just fine.      Light .. .. .. Action .. .. .. Pump .. .. .. Harvested: 4:45 a.m. September 10th 2000, 2.5 ton/acre @ 48F Fermentation Type: 100% Whole berry Yeast: 100% Wild yeast, aged on lees Time on Skins: Cold Maceration 7 days, 30 days total Extended Maceration: 100% extended maceration, 16 days Cooperage: 100% French Oak, 1 year old Clarification: Non-fined, unfiltered Case Production: 337 Release Date: January 1st, 2002 Winemaker Notes: A perfumed nose of cherry, root beer, brown spice and subtle toasted oak.
