1997 RED TRIANGLE CABERNET SAUVIGNON
Berries and spice,
berries and spice – what more can I say?
Our Red Triangle
Vineyards unite the Napa Valley appellations of Atlas Peak, Stags
Leap and the district of Coombsville, creating a triangle of regions
renowned for growing distinctive red wine grapes of exceptional
quality. These vineyards not only possess an underlying soil structure
of well-drained granite pebbles like the gravel riverbeds of Pauillac
and Hermitage, but they also share the benefits of low rainfall.
The key to the consistency of Rowland Red Triangle Vineyards is
the drier, wind sheltered climate over its sister regions.
Our fruit
in 1997 had the long "hang time" typically associated with southeastern
Napa Valley. Cool nights and warm days produced an intriguing
array of ripe berry fruits and fresh spices, increasing complexity
and a greater layering of flavors.

Winemakers
Notes:
This wine has an aromatic infusion of fresh ripe blueberries and
briery blackberries. A floral delight of violets is enriched by
the subtle nuance of Jamaican allspice and freshly roasted French
coffee.
On tasting, there is a strong
mid-palate that is built up of plump, spicy, black olives with anise-laced
flesh. Vibrant black currant and cherry add layers upon the soft,
mouth-filling, velvety tannins. |
